Usually it makes me sad when I discover there’s a tea that I haven’t tried. However, in this case….whew. There has been a recall of the Organic Herbal Tea made by RemedyTeas because of possible salmonella contamination. Here’s the article from DBR:
RemedyTeas, an organic tea retailer and tea cafe in Seattle, has recalled 20 lbs of peppermint Organic Herbal Tea produced by Aromatics Basin City, Washington, because it had potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
The recall was as the result of a batch sample testing program by the vendor after it received a notification of possible contamination which revealed that the finished products contained the bacteria.
The company has stopped the production and distribution of the product as the FDA and the vendor are investigating on the origin of the contamination.
The #137 Peppermint Organic Herbal Tea or #120 Tranquility Herbal Tea were distributed in the RemedyTeas retail store and through mail and internet orders.
Retail stock of #137 Peppermint Organic Herbal Tea was sold between 18 January 2011 and 4 March 2011.
Retail stock of #120 Tranquility Herbal Tea was sold between 22 February 2011 and 4 March 2011. Any purchases not within those dates are not affected by this recall.
There were no reported illnesses relating to this voluntary recall till date.
