If Green Tea’s reputation were an actress, it’d be Halle Berry. It just keeps getting better and better, lovelier and lovelier.
When eating a meal, if you drink for coffee, water, or black tea – you could be going one step further.
A new study was done on the effects of drinking green tea with a meal. The results, which were published in the Nutrition Journal, show that drinking antioxidant-rich green tea could enhance the feelings of satiety, or fullness.
Dr Julija Josic from Sweden’s Lund University led the research effort. Josic said that the overall feeling of satiety was heightened after a meal that was accompanied by green tea as compared to a meal with water.
If you’re watching calories, the benefits are obvious – the sooner you’re full, the sooner you’ll push yourself away from the table.
If you like iced green tea with your meals, and the restaurant you’re dining in has hot tea – ask them to put it on ice for you. I’ve done it before and would easily do it again. Hopefully more restaurants will begin adding green tea to their menu. Those of us who love green tea should start petitioning our favorite restaurants to “go green.”
In addition to Green Tea’s immune-boosting, anti-carcinogenic properties, and diet-friendly benefits, it has something else up its sleeve. Something we baby boomers can really get excited about: Anti-Aging Effects. Oh how I love Green Tea.
Premature aging is brought about by free radicals. They wreak havoc, causing damage to healthy cells. Given the fact that green tea is beautifully rich in antioxidants, it is very potent in neutralizing free radicals which would otherwise be toxic to our bodies.
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again because I want you to be as healthy as possible and always as lovely as you are right now: Start drinking green tea. If, for some bizarre-o reason, you don’t care for the taste of green tea, get creative. Honey is my favorite addition. I love the taste of green tea, but I love it even more when it’s blended with a little honey. Green tea is also divine when you float a lemon and/or orange slice in it. Put honey AND lemon together and you’ll have a party in your face.
I lift my purple mug filled with green tea and a touch of honey and offer a toast to the drink of the gods.
